STRUCTURAL IDENTIFICATION OF THE SULTAN AHMET MOSQUE THROUGH DYNAMIC RESPONSE STUDIES

ABSTRACT

In this study, dynamic response of the Sultan Ahmet Mosque are investigated. For this purpose a three dimensional numerical model of the mosque is constructed and the ambient vibration tests are carried out o the actual structure. Periods and related mode shapes are obtained from the numerical model and compared with those obtained from the ambient vibration test results. As a conclusion, the frequencies and related mode shapes are found to be close enough to those of ambient vibration tests within a reasonable margin.
