ABSTRACT

In this study, the aim is to investigate the discontinuity of vertical structural elements that are described Turkish Seismic Code, 1998, (TSC'98) by using Nonlinear Static Analysis (Pushover Analysis) for seismic response analysis of rc. buildings. Various types of shape and rigidity irregularities in buildings have been described. For this purpose, four type of vertically irregular reinforced concrete building described in TSCY98 were used to evaluate the procedure. The sample structures have 6 story and the analyses have been carried out according to the Earthquake Code of Turkey, 1998. For Nonlinear Static Analysis, modal load pattern procedure recommended by was used. In this procedure, the fundamental first mode was taken into consideration. Pushover Analysis procedure was evaluated for its ability to predict overall performance of the buildings. Inter-story drift ratios, hinge rotations and curvatures were obtained. The strain values of hinges were calculated by using the curvatures and these strains were compared with the limit strain values. By doing these comparisons, sample irregular structures were evaluated and results were shown.
